Can you help with the poem 'Ballad'?
I feel that under the general story this poem is about men and women in the wider world and not just in the tight scenario of the poem. Men will offer anything to a woman to get her into bed. But of course their promises are worthless. As the poem says 'he has two hearts' that is one that offers love and the hard one that dumps her when she's pregnant. 'When my poor heart was strange to men' - again the world wide anguish of the inexperienced girl coming up against the experienced womaniser. And in the last two lines the woman is wishing for death both for her babe and herself.
